Imam Muhammad Suliman is a distinguished scholar, educator, and community leader whose life has been dedicated to fostering faith, knowledge, and unity. His journey reflects a deep commitment to the teachings of Islam, the pursuit of academic excellence, and the service of Muslim communities across North America.
Educational Journey
Imam Muhammad Suliman’s educational achievements are a testament to his dedication to both Islamic and academic knowledge. By the age of 11, he had memorized the Quran and later completed his Islamic studies at the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Egypt. In 2002, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Languages and Translation, specializing in English.
Seeking to expand his knowledge, he pursued higher education in the United States. He earned an MA in English Literature in 2009 and a Ph.D. in English Literature and Criticism in 2014, both from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, in 2023, he completed an MA in Fiqh and its Origins at the Islamic University of Minnesota, further enhancing his understanding of Islamic jurisprudence.
Professional Experience
With over 16 years of experience as an Imam and Chaplain, Imam Muhammad Suliman has served communities in both the USA and Canada with compassion and wisdom. He has worked as an Imam and Religious Advisor in Mississauga, the Greater Toronto Area, and Ottawa-Gatineau, where he currently serves as the Imam and Director of Religious Affairs.
In his role as an educator, he has taught Quran, Tajweed, Islamic Studies, and Arabic Language to students of all ages. As an Assistant Professor of English at Al-Azhar University, he combined his expertise in language with his passion for teaching. He also contributed to the academic and spiritual growth of students as a Campus Minister and Interfaith Leader at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
His work extends beyond mosques and campuses, as he has served as a Chaplain in correctional institutions and as a Board Member of the Canadian Council of Imams. These roles highlight his dedication to building bridges within the Muslim community and beyond.
A Vision for Al Kawthar Academy
Now, Imam Muhammad Suliman is leading the transformation of Al Kawthar Academy into a vibrant center for worship, learning, and community in downtown Ottawa. With a vision to inspire faith and foster unity, he aims to create a space where Muslims can connect, grow, and thrive together. The Academy will serve as a beacon of hope and knowledge, nurturing the next generation of Muslim leaders while strengthening the foundations of the community.
